Happy Halloween, Day 1: Masks - Trick
You Got a Trick!
In shadow work, masks symbolize the personas or identities we create to hide our vulnerabilities, fears, and insecurities. These masks protect us, but they can also distance us from our authentic selves.
When we do shadow work, we explore the masks we wear daily: Who are we pretending to be? What truths are we hiding? And what would happen if we removed the mask?
Peeling back these layers allows us to face and embrace the aspects of ourselves that we may find uncomfortable or fear others might judge. By acknowledging and integrating these hidden parts, we move closer to our true essence, fostering self-acceptance and healing.
So, whether you’re choosing a mask for Halloween or exploring the one you wear every day, both can be powerful ways to connect with different parts of yourself—playfully or introspectively!
To get your trick, answer these questions:
Mask Off:Â What masks do you wear around others, and why? What would it feel like to remove them?
Masks are a playful and symbolic part of Halloween traditions. Historically, they were worn to disguise oneself from spirits and mischievous entities roaming on All Hallows' Eve. Today, they allow us to transform, becoming anyone or anything for a night—an opportunity to explore and express different sides of ourselves without judgment. Masks provide a chance to step into another identity, even if just temporarily, and to hide our true selves behind a fun or spooky facade.
