Day 5 - Self-Care Choose Your Own Adventure

Updated: Nov 22

How It Works

30-Day "Choose Your Own Adventure" Self-Care Challenge where each day you choose between nurturing your inner Gremlin (embracing chaos, fun, and breaking rules) and being your Higher Self (grounded, nurturing, and wise).

This balance will help you explore both sides of your self-care needs, from lighthearted fun to deeper reflection.

Day 5: Inner Talk

Gremlin Choice:

Embrace the Sassy Inner Gremlin - Look in the mirror and say the first outrageous, funny thing that comes to mind. Be sarcastic, silly, or bold. Let your inner gremlin speak its mind—no filters today.

Higher Self Choice:

Self-Love Affirmations - Spend a moment looking at yourself in the mirror and saying three loving, supportive things about yourself. Speak as though you’re talking to your dearest friend.

What did you decide today?

What exactly is true self-care

True self-care goes beyond surface-level activities and is more about consistently meeting your genuine needs, setting boundaries, and taking steps toward your well-being in a deep and meaningful way.

More on:

Cultivating Self-Compassion

  • Practicing self-kindness, especially when you make mistakes, and replacing negative self-talk with supportive and affirming language.

More ways to cultivate self-compassion:

  • Practice Self-Forgiveness: Allow yourself to let go of past mistakes, recognizing that everyone makes them. Reflect on what you’ve learned and remind yourself that growth comes through compassion, not criticism.

  • Acknowledge Your Feelings: Recognize and accept your emotions without judgment. Whether they’re challenging or gentle, give yourself permission to feel and process them fully, which reinforces self-acceptance.

  • Treat Yourself as a Friend: When you’re struggling, ask yourself what you’d say to a loved one in the same situation. Practice talking to yourself with kindness, encouragement, and understanding, as you would for someone close to you.

  • Embrace Imperfection: Remind yourself that it’s okay to be imperfect; it’s part of being human. Celebrate small wins, learn from setbacks, and remember that self-worth isn’t defined by perfection.

  • Create a Self-Compassion Ritual: Develop a ritual, like journaling or meditation, to check in with yourself each day. Reflect on your strengths, offer yourself words of encouragement, or simply sit in gratitude for who you are right now.

  • Challenge Negative Self-Talk: Notice critical thoughts and replace them with more compassionate, balanced perspectives. Practicing positive self-talk and using affirmations can shift your mindset over time.

  • Allow Rest and Recovery: Honor your needs by giving yourself permission to rest. Self-compassion involves recognizing when you’re depleted and giving yourself time to recharge without guilt.

  • Celebrate Small Victories: Acknowledge your achievements, no matter how small. Focusing on wins—like sticking with healthy routines or finishing a project—builds self-appreciation and reinforces self-compassion.

  • Surround Yourself with Supportive People: Spend time with friends and loved ones who uplift and support you. Positive connections can remind you to treat yourself with the same love and kindness they show you.

  • Set Boundaries with Kindness: Self-compassion includes protecting your energy. Set boundaries that honor your well-being, and remember that saying "no" can be an act of self-respect.
